Ingredients: 1/4 c Shortening
3/4 c Sugar
1/4 c Milk
2 Eggs -- separated
1/2 ts Salt
1/4 ts Mace,nutmeg or vanilla
3 ts Baking powder
3 1/2 c Flour -- or alittle more
Directions: Cream shortening and sugar together until light; add
the well beaten yolks of eggs. Sift the flour,baking
powder, salt and spice and add alternately with the
milk, than fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites, and
than enough flour to make dough stiff. Place on a
floured board, roll out 3/4 of an inch thick and cut
with cruller cutter, or small glass and thimble for
center) Fry in hot oil. Remove from fat with wire
spoon or fork, drain on paper towel. Sprinkle with
cinnamon and sugar. Or powder sugar.
